Tom Milne

Tom Milne (1926-2005) was a British film critic. After war service, he studied English and French at Aberdeen University and later at the Sorbonne. Interested in the theatre too, he wrote for the magazine Encore, which existed for a decade (1954 to 1965). When his career path took him into the world of the film critic, he joined the British Film Institute as associate editor of Sight and Sound and editor of the Monthly Film Bulletin. Leaving the Film Institute to go freelance he wrote as a film critic for the Times, the Financial Times, the Observer and edited the definitive Time Out Film Guide.
