Annette Apon
Annette Apon (1949) is a Dutch filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer. Born in Amsterdam, she studied at the Netherlands Film Academy from 1968 to 1972, where she co‑founded the film magazine Skrien and began publishing regularly on cinema in newspapers and journals. Shortly after graduating, she worked on the set of Turks Fruit (1972) as a script assistant and held several other film assistant roles. In 1973, she acted in and contributed to the production of Frans van de Staak’s Uit het werk van Baruch d’Espinoza 1632–1677. In 1974, she was a co‑founder of the film collective Het Amsterdamse Stadsjournaal, where she was active until 1980. She has directed around forty films since 1973, including feature films, documentaries, and theatre productions. Her feature debut, De golven (1982), was the first Dutch adaptation of a Virginia Woolf novel. Other notable works include Giovanni (1983), De man met de hond (1998), and Ik wil gelukkig zijn (2016).
