Cristina Fernandes

Cristina Fernandes (1966) is a Portuguese film researcher and writer. She has been writing about cinema and literature since 2004, sharing her work on Bicho Ruim, the blog she co-runs with Rui Manuel Amaral.. Her contributions include articles in various outlets, as well as edited translations such as Lágrimas e Santos by Emil Cioran (Edições 70, 2022) and Uma família em Bruxelas by Chantal Akerman (BCF, 2023). Upcoming projects include translations and editions of Emil Cioran, Marguerite Duras, and Paulino Viota.

Elle émerge comme une voix dans le désert, visant personne en particulier et tout le monde à la fois.

Dat de wereld ten onder gaat, dat hij ten onder gaat, dat is de enige politiek.” Dit is misschien wel de meest gedurfde uitspraak die ik ben tegengekomen, omdat ze gewelddadig is en verder gaat dan het domein van de cinema. Ze verschijnt als een stem in de woestijn, gericht aan niemand en aan iedereen tegelijk.

Let the world go to its ruin, let it go to its ruin, that is the only politics.” This is perhaps the boldest statement I have come across because it is violent and moves beyond the field of cinema. It emerges like a voice in the desert, aimed at no one and everyone.
