Johan Daisne
Johan Daisne, pseudonym of Herman Thiery (1912-1978), was a Belgian author, poet, essayist and film critic. He is considered one of the pioneers of magic realism in Dutch literature, a genre he theorized in the essays Losse beschouwingen over het dossier van het magisch realisme (1949) and Letterkunde en magie (1958). His books include De man die zijn haar kort liet knippen (1947) and De trein der traagheid (1950), which were both made into a film by André Delvaux. His writing on cinema includes Hedendaagse filmkunst (1948), Kritiek van de kinematograaf (1950), Filmatiek, of de film als levenskunst (1956) and the three-part Filmografisch lexicon der wereldliteratuur (1971, 1975, 1978).
