Florian Hopf

Florian Hopf (1939–1989) was a German film critic, screenwriter and director. As a critic, he was involved in the propagation of the Neuer Deutscher Film. In this regard, he co-edited Filmwirtschaft in der BRD und in Europa: Götterdämmerung in Raten (1973) with Alexander Kluge and Michael Dost. In 1981, he collaborated on the so-called “Frankfurter Rundschau”, a proposed reform of the Berlinale arguing for more German presence in the selection. Also known are his series of Filmreports, which were published throughout the 1960s and ’70s.  As a director and screenwriter, he is known for his work on Der Kerl liebt mich – und das soll ich glauben? (1969), Ein Fall für Männdli (1973) and Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1977 (1977).
