Wang Bing Focus at Cinéma Galeries

From 26 June to 26 July 2025, Cinéma Galeries in Brussels will present a focus programme dedicated to Chinese filmmaker Wang Bing. As part of this programme, the cinema will host a masterclass with the director on Sunday 29 June. Moderated by Stoffel Debuysere (KASK School of Arts / Courtisane), the event offers an opportunity to hear Wang Bing discuss his filmmaking practice, influences, and his commitment to documenting the lives of those on the margins of Chinese society. The masterclass is part of a broader series of events that includes screenings of West of the Tracks and his recent Youth trilogy.
In parallel, an exhibition of photographs taken by the filmmaker in the 1990s in Shenyang – an industrial city in northern China and the setting of West of the Tracks – is on view in the cinema’s gallery space.
In 2019, Sabzian and Courtisane published an issue dedicated to the cinema of Wang Bing. The collection traces Wang Bing’s trajectory by way of a series of writings and interviews that were published between 2009 and 2018.
