Carte Blanche: Auguste Orts / C0N10UR
Since 2003, the Contour Biennial for the Moving Image has occupied a special position in the visual arts, both in Belgium and abroad. Focusing on screen-based works, this eight-week exhibition in the city of Mechelen is produced and presented by the nona arts center. The 10th edition of the biennial (CON10UR), curated by Auguste Orts, will be held from 9 September to 11 November.
During C0N10UR, the five Auguste Orts artists will not present their own work. Instead, they will connect to the rich Belgian ecosystem of artists' film practices and contribute to its sustainable development, supporting new works on screen that can continue their journey long after the eight-week exhibition itself. Orts opts for a resolutely local anchoring: the artists of diverse origins invited to this festive edition of C0N10UR reside in Belgium. Diversity is an essential feature of this exhibition project: a gathering of artists and works in which different generations can identify with each other, and where various formats and forms of the moving image can enter into dialogue.
At the invitation of CINEMATEK and as prelude to C0N10UR, Auguste Orts will present film works from 17 to 25 April by some of the artists participating in the biennial event scheduled for next autumn: Elephy, Mieriën Coppens & Elie Maisin, Annik Leroy, Rosine Mbakam and Subversive Film. These filmmakers have each been invited to compose their own part of the programme, bringing together their own work and titles from the CINEMATEK collections.
