Wolfgang Kolb (1956-2024)
Last week, German filmmaker and programmer Wolfgang Kolb passed away in Brussels. Kolb studied film at INSAS in Brussels. For several years, Kolb filmed the work of dancer and choreographer Roxane Huilmand while she was collaborating with the Rosas dance company and creating her own pieces. Together with Huilmand, Kolb created amongst others Muurwerk (1987), Hoppla! (1989), and Capricieuse, Aix ’89 (1990). Later, he made, amongst others, La Sainte Victoire and Vivre à Jette. In 2000, Kolb co-founded Danscentrumjette in Brussels. Since 2011, he has been a curator, together with Huilmand and Stefanie Bodien, for L’art difficile de filmer la danse / International Dancefilmfestival Brussels.
In an e-mail from Dancecentrumjette, they bid him farewell with the words from a monologue of Prospero (The Tempest, Shakespeare), that he liked to quote:
We are such stuff
As dreams are made on,
And our little life is rounded with a sleep.
