Charles Dekeukeleire’s Combat de boxe, made when he was just 22 and influenced by Vertov’s “camera-eye,” transforms its improvised production into a dynamic experiment in montage, superimposition, and rhythm. Through rapid editing, close-ups, and shifting positive and negative images, the film turns the violence, crowd, and tension of boxing into a dazzling visual choreography that captures the very essence of the fight.
