First Forum for Film Education 2025

The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis (NICA) organises the 1st Forum for Film Education (FFE) on 27–28 November 2025 at the University of Amsterdam’s Media Studies Department. The forum brings together scholars, filmmakers, curators, educators, psychologists, and social workers to discuss the terrain of film pedagogy – from early childhood screen education to adult media literacy. Over two days, participants will engage in roundtable discussions, panel sessions, a keynote lecture, and side-events including a VR installation and a film screening for toddlers.

Keynote speaker Jan Masschelein (KU Leuven) will frame the debates, while presentations by researchers such as Sheila J. Nayar, Chaorong Hua, Nancy Vansieleghem, Christian Olesen, Mary-Joy van der Deure, and others offer perspectives on archival practices, curatorial education, and media literacy.
