Collected Writings by Jonathan Rosenbaum and Babette Mangolte

Sternberg Press has published a collection of texts by Babette Mangolte in which she reflects on her practice as a photographer and filmmaker, and her collaborative work with filmmakers, artists, dancers and choreographers. Babette Mangolte: Selected Writings, 1998–2015 provides insights into the techniques and methods she created as well as her relationships with notable collaborators such as Marina Abramović, Chantal Akerman, Trisha Brown and Yvonne Rainer. Among the included texts, you can find ‘Chantal Akerman, My Friend’ (2015) and ‘The Loudness of the World: Listening to What is Out There: Sound Strategies in Chantal Akerman’s Fiction and Documentary Films’ (2011).

University of Illinois Press has published Jonathan Rosenbaum’s new collection of essays and interviews from the period between 1972 and 2009. Cinematic Encounters: Interviews and Dialogues contains conversations with Orson Welles, Jacques Tati and Jim Jarmush among others. By arranging the chapters chronologically, Rosenbaum invites readers to pursue thematic threads as if the discussions were dialogues between separate interviews. ‘Interviews and Dialogues’ is the first part of a two-volume work called Cinematic Encounters. The second volume is subtitled ‘Portraits and Polemics’ and is scheduled to appear in May 2019.rosenbaummangolte
