“De 90-jarige en nog steeds actieve Raoul Servais is Belgiës meest gelauwerde animatiefilmer. Servais’ kortfilmoeuvre werd intussen digitaal gerestaureerd en kan dus eindelijk terug op groot scherm bewonderd worden. Servais experimenteerde in zijn films met steeds andere grafische stijlen en animatietechnieken. Hij liet zich vaak inspireren door Belgische schilders, surrealisten zowel als expressionisten.”

“[...] one day I borrowed a camera from a friend of my father’s – I must have been eleven, or twelve. I had made a huge amount of drawings and had put them on the floor in a certain sequence. Then I took the camera, pushed the button and started walking along the drawings, thinking I was making an animation film. When the film returned from the lab, I was deeply disappointed at the result: the images did not move and meant nothing. All I saw was a foolish pan shot, totally uninteresting and meaningless. I did not understand how animation was made. So I had to re-invent animation film fifty years after it had been invented.”
