Kinograph Closing Weekend

After three years of temporary occupation, the Brussels-based community cinema Kinograph will close its doors at the end of June. The cinema is situated in the former barracks of Ixelles, as part of the transitional occupation project SeeU. For the past years, Kinograph provided a welcome refuge for cinemagoers living in Brussels. To say farewell, they invite you to a weekend of screenings, encounters, talks and parties.

« En général, si le cinéaste filme, c'est-à-dire tient lui-même la caméra et montre ce qu'il voit, fait entendre ses réflexions, il ne peut apparaître lui-même à l'image, et sur l'écran, sauf s'il passe devant un miroir, mais dans mon cas, je me filme souvent par procuration, la caméra se retourne vers moi. Double-moi donc, derrière la caméra : auteur et metteur en scène, et devant la caméra : scénariste et acteur. »

A Place in Time and Killer of Sheep: Two Radical Definitions of Adventure Minus Women

It would be more than fair to say that in American films, the motif of adventure is one of the favorite story-telling devices. So many films come to mind – from the most banal to the most memorable of the western, detective, and war genre films of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s to the rash of modern-day science fiction films patterned on the Star Wars or Close Encounters formulas. (...) Two other films stand out in my mind that take the adventure story theme to another level, and therefore deserve a closer look: Charles Lane’s A Place in Time, and Charles Burnett’s Killer Of Sheep.
